Warriors owner fined $50,000 for talking about Ben Simmons

The NBA announced on Wednesday that Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacobe has been fined $50,000 for violating the NBA’s anti-fraud law.

Lacob’s fine came after he cast doubt during a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that Warriors were interested in obtaining it. Ben Simmons, the disgruntled star of the Philadelphia 76ers.

“In a way, that doesn’t really fit into what we’re doing,” Lacob told the Chronicle. “He makes a lot of money,” said Lacobe. “And can he finish matches? I don’t know.” “He’s very talented. The problem is: We have Draymond. He and Draymond are very similar in the sense that neither of them actually shoot and do a lot of playmaking. That’s one issue. The pay structure is another.”

ESPN sources, Adrian Wojnarowski, said Tuesday that Simmons, 25, has no intention of playing for the 76ers again. As speculation continues about the Simmons’ future, the Warriors continues to emerge as a potential landing site, but Lacob’s comments will likely slow that talk in league circles.

76ers coach Doc Rivers hopes to change Simmons’ mind.

Well, I hope we can change that thinking,” Rivers said on ESPN’s Keyshawn, JWill and Max Wednesday morning. “This is part of our job.”
