At the start of Round 7 of the 2021-22 Premier League, Manchester United, who was not Cristiano Ronaldo among the starters, hosted Everton Yerry Mina at Old Trafford. Duel over the top positions.
The duel was slow to speed up. The teams, both at the top of the championship, decided not to risk from the start and wait. There were a few minutes of studying and the occasional approach to the buildings.
The first clear came at 22′. Fred put in a good cross from the side and Edinson Cavani, who was back in the starting line-up, was in complete isolation against the grass, but Jordan Pickford made a superb save. Despite trying his shot into the corner, the Uruguayan left the center of the arcade.
Half an hour into the match, the South American striker starred with his colleague Scott McTominay in a powerful cross with Yerry Mina. The Colombian was furious with a powerful cross by the Scotsman against Lucas Digne. Fortunately, the engagement didn’t progress that far.
In 32 minutes the visit responded. Demarai Gray put in a great one-on-one display, a pure dribbling from left to inside culminating with a powerful cross pass on the right and a save by David de Gea with an excellent extension.
And when it looked like it all ended in a draw, Old Trafford was happy (43′). Bruno Fernandes received the edge of the area and immediately opened up on the left for Anthony Martial who set first inside his right foot, the ball veered slightly into Mina and ended up entering the opposing goal.
The second part didn’t have much emotion in the first minutes. Of course, in the 57th minute, coach Solskjaer moved his seat: Martial and Cavani left, and the long-awaited Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo entered.
Unfortunately the changes did not work for the homeowner. In the 64th minute, Everton gave a lecture on how to counterattack in the English Premier League style.
After being rejected by Gray’s corner kick, the England winger on the left won at pure speed and unloaded in the middle with Abdoulaye Doukuri. Advancing a few metres, the Frenchman put an interesting curb to break free from two marks and enabled Andros Townsend, who set his right to let De Gea nailed.
With a goal against the “Red Devils” pressure again. Solskjaer sent Paul Pogba to the field to give more management and a search all against CR7. He just got a cross shot, almost without an angle, which Pickford pulled with his fingernails.
Time passed and the ways were not found. United appealed for the air match, the middle distance and more… the desperation began to appear.
With five from the end, Mina managed to become a champion. After a corner kick, Everton managed to get the ball back into the area from the right flank with a low center and the Guachené-born defender pushed it in. A usual little dance and utter happiness. Unfortunately, the assistant referee canceled everything out of place and the VAR confirmed his determination.
In the end it was one goal at Old Trafford. With this, both Manchester United and Everton remain in the top spots in the Premier League with 14 units each.
