Los Angeles Lakers star, Anthony DavisThe team announced on Saturday that he will miss at least four weeks with a left knee sprain before being re-evaluated.
Davis suffered an injury in the third quarter of Friday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, when the Wolves forward, Jaden McDanielsHe lost his balance and hit Davis’ left knee.
Davis tried to get off the field and into the Lakers locker room without any help, but ESPN’s broadcast cameras caught Davis collapsing to the floor in pain as he made his way through the tunnel.
The Lakers had an MRI test in Chicago on Saturday that revealed the sprain. Davis has missed only three of the Lakers’ first 30 games due to injury this season.
Davis played 62 games in his first season with the Lakers before they won their 17th championship in the Florida Bubble. Davis then appeared in just 36 games last season while struggling with persistent injury issues that ultimately prevented him from finishing the season in play.
Davis is averaging 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 blocking shots per game this season.
Despite several injury problems and the current wave of COVID-19 problems, the Lakers (16-14) started the weekend in sixth place in the Western Conference.
